The story starts out simple enough. I was an ambitious, young public relations student that decided to take on a part-time job at a local flower shop. While waiting on customers, working in the greenhouse and learning the ins and outs of the business, I developed an appreciation for the floral industry and the creative individuals who call themselves “designers”. After college, I established myself in the advertising industry only to find out the hard way that I really wanted to work to live … not live to work. I longed to define success on my own terms.


Sometime later I quit my advertising job and the rat race that accompanied it. Honestly, I had no real plan or any job prospects for that matter. Vowing not to take another high-stress job based on a fancy title or high income potential, I remembered the time when I felt most creative, most inspired, most like myself … those college days at the neighborhood flower shop.


I quickly found myself visiting all of the flower shops in town looking for the opportunity to build a new career. Talbott's Flowers, a longstanding family-owned shop with an unprecedented reputation for quality hired me to sweep floors and answer phones. After a few months of doing nothing but grunt jobs with unbridled enthusiasm, I finally earns the title of “full-time designer.”


Fast forward six years to today. I am is proud to own my own business, Manor House Flowers and strive to create one-of-a-kind work for blushing brides, corporate accounts and many neighborhood customers. And, I am still dedicated to defining success on my own terms.
